Description
Sylvania is mainly known for its great wilderness canoeing. There are 25 miles of
portages and trails, and there are about 4,000 acres of water. Hiking/skiing trails connect
most of the campsites, but canoeing is the main attraction. Canoes are available for rental (see link below).
The wilderness area is virgin forest, it has never been logged. It is a
very nice place to camp, with only the sounds of buzzing mosquitoes, howling loons and other
wildlife. You have to watch out for hungry bears, too. Crooked Lake is not the nicest lake
to camp on because of roaring motorboats. On all other lakes motor usage is prohibited. Loon Lake
is home to many loons and is very pleasant.
